Things You May Want To Know Before You Arrive at the
2011 Tennessee Fall Homecoming
What are the hours of the Homecoming?
We begin music & demonstrations at about 9:00am. If you want to come in earlier for hot coffee & biscuits the gates will open around 8:30am. We end each day at 6:00pm.
What will the weather be like?
Remember you are coming to East Tennessee! If you don’t like the weather wait a little while and it will certainly change! Be prepared for sun, rain, maybe some wind. We’ve had hot Homecomings, cold Homecomings and just perfect Homecomings. If rain is predicted please bring rain gear such a poncho & hat. Sorry, please leave your umbrellas in the car. They are not permitted in the seating areas due to blocking the view of the stages.
What about chairs? Where can I sit?
You are welcome to bring your own chairs and leave in place all the days you attend (Yes, that includes overnight!) You can place your chairs after 4:00pm on Thursday, October 6th. Unattended chairs will be available for general seating. If you choose not to bring a chair, we have limited seating in the stage areas.
Smoking: is it allowed?
Smoking is prohibited in all Homecoming public performance & food areas. Homecoming is hosted by the Museum of Appalachia, a living history Museum so we respectfully request you refrain from smoking in all cabins, barns & other Museum structures. Please dispose of any tobacco products in a safe manner.
Can I bring my pet to Homecoming?
The only pets allowed on the grounds during Homecoming are Service Dogs. There is a great Veterinary Clinic/Boarding kennel across the street from the Museum. They will be happy to watch your pet during Homecoming. Please call ahead and make arrangements.
Their name & number is: Anderson County Animal Hospital 865-494-8696
Can I bring a cooler of food & drinks?
Out of respect for our vendors who have worked hard to serve good food & drinks at reasonable prices, we do not allow coolers on the grounds. Small coolers for medical reasons are allowed.
Is overnight parking available?
Due to security reasons, overnight parking is not available during Homecoming or at any time while visiting the Museum of Appalachia. There are some great campgrounds near the Museum. Check our lodging page for local Campgrounds
Is there a fee for parking?
Parking is free during Homecoming!
What about Handicap Parking?
We have limited Handicap parking available. Please bring your handicap sticker or tag with you.
Is a tour of the Museum of Appalachia included with my Homecoming ticket?
Yes, the self-guided tour (30+ historical buildings) is included in your admission ticket with the exception of the Appalachian Hall of Fame. For safety & security reasons, a nominal fee of $3.00 per person will be collected at the Hall of Fame entrance to tour this exhibit hall.
Where can I get more information about the area around the Museum including Lodging?
Please call the Anderson County Tourism Council, 1-800-524-3602 or visit their website www.yallcome.org
Is there an advantage to becoming a member of the Museum of Appalachia Family?
Yes! Not only will you help support the Museum’s mission to preserve the Appalachian Heritage & Culture, you can also get special discounted tickets for special events, visit the Museum any time you like during the year, receive a newsletter about happenings at the Museum & get special invitations to exhibit openings & events.
See you in October!
This event is funded in part by a grant from South Arts
in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts
and the Tennessee Arts Commision.
